Su Brown
Every aspect of construction, wheel thrown, hand-building or sculpting techniques is used in my work. Depending on the use, the works are either high fired using Porcelain clay or low fired using Keanes EW 37 or BRT for the very large pieces.
Teaching pottery for over 30 years has been very rewarding and to see a novice advance to an exhibiting potter is wonderful.
2011 saw me heading on a four month journey to a small Arrarnta Aboriginal community, Wallace Rockhole, 100 kms west of Alice Springs in NT to set up a pottery. There I teach wheel throwing, hand-building, decorating, glazing and firing kilns. To see the joy this brings to both adults and children is heart warming. This continues and 2012 will see this project taken to another level.
In 2006 l received two grants, RADF and Arts Queensland, to assist with completing a three month Artist Residency at Sanbao in China.
