Anne Mossman
My pottery career started in 2002, after a sea change in lifestyle and location from a corporate Sydney based job to the relaxed climate of the Gold Coast. I completed the Ceramics Distance Diploma at the ANU in 2007 and may continue with study if further distance courses are developed.
I enjoyed weekly classes at the Gold Coast Potters during 2003/4 and was a member of the committee from 2003-11 in various roles but primarily as the web administrator for the Association’s first web site. I was also involved with and enjoyed the association with the Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award from 2003 - 2005.
My ceramic work involves coloured and pierced slip cast porcelain vessels. I live on a hinterland block which is on the fringe of eucalypt woodland, but I have also built in more formal elements. My current ceramic work is an evocation of the construction of shapes, textures and colours and the contrasts in the inherited and landscaped garden I live amongst.Whilst each bowl is a finished vessel in itself it’s only when they are grouped together, in a composition, they truly speak to me of my surroundings. The pierced bowls imitate the layering of dappled shadows, borrow from the tracings of insects and evoke the patterns of leaves, seeds and stony tracts. The inlay bowls mimic the colours of the native and exotic shrubs, and the sticks and leaves in the less formal parts of the garden. When they are grouped together, at different levels and aspects, they echo the visual interest I love in my surroundings.
