Statement:

Clay is my life’s journey.

From my very first lesson with pottery in 1974 I knew I had found the medium for my creative expression. With tutors such as Di Peach, Ian MacKay, Lyn McDowell, Greg Daly and many more, a deep love and inquisitiveness of this alluring material was developed and continues to this day.

With clay one can never master all of its possibilities.  The various making styles and techniques, decorating, glazing and firing methods allows one to follow one’s creative urges, if one dares (which I do).

My approach to clay is both emotional and personal; each day in my studio is eagerly anticipated.  I daydream of sculptures whilst sleeping, sitting by the creek, driving the car or talking to people.  My whole focus is on sculpting clay.

True happiness is for me to be alone and working in my studio.

I have been teaching pottery and clay sculpture since the early 1980’s and I still do so with classes for both adults and children at the Potters’ Place, Benowa.  I also have a small class for a select few advanced students at my studio plus I do various specialty workshops around Queensland.

In 2006 I received an Arts Qld and a RADF grant to go to Jindezhen in China for a 3 month Artists Residency.  This trip inspired and renewed my dedication to all that is Ceramic.
